Lenovo HCI
📌 Friday Engineering Notes from the Field
Lenovo is bringing the solution part to the solution selling equation with simplified infrastructure deployment services
Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) has been around for well over a decade, and its many benefits are well documented. HCI is proven to reduce costs and complexity while enabling greater flexibility and seamless scalability.
Traditionally, HCI was deployed for specific use cases, including virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), data protection, disaster recovery and software testing. Organizations also used HCI for server consolidation and to simplify the IT stack in remote offices.
Organizations are now utilizing HCI for a broad range of use cases to relieve today’s IT headaches. I’m seeing being used in AI-ready architecture to deliver operational simplicity, reduce hardware sprawl, and run localized AI inference side by side with traditional virtualized workloads
One of the challenges around HCI involves deployment. IT teams need to reach production through a defined path. That means moving from readiness and installation through integration, validation, documentation and operational handoff. Teams are looking to reduce deployment effort and uncertainty and sustain operational readiness after go live.
Lenovo’s approach to HCI has been collaborative. Their product portfolio supports Nutanix, VMware and Microsoft.
Here’s the quiet part that IT folks don’t always say out loud. IT teams aren’t looking for products, they are looking for solutions.
Lenovo listened. Lenovo has announced professional services meant to support HCI environments (ThinkAgile solution) along with ThinkSystem servers and ThinkSystem storage arrays.
Customers can match the deployment approach that best fits their project needs:
⭐ Standard Deploy: Core readiness and onsite hardware installation for projects with strong internal IT capacity.
⭐ Premier Deploy: Adds remote deployment and integration support for projects needing additional documentation, knowledge transfer, and operational handoff.
⭐ Premier Deploy Plus: Adds onsite deployment, extended post-deployment assistance, and an infrastructure health check, where applicable, for more complex or business-critical projects.
